Ask any group of business owners about the benefits of outsourcing and you’ll get as many answers as you have people – simply because the perceived benefits directly related to each companies industry and in-house capabilities.

So, for manufacturers this may mean increasing their production capacity via using a Chinese company to pump out widgets, for an accountant it may mean off shoring all the data entry and calculation elements of their business whilst they take care of the frontend and decision making with the clients.

But what does that mean for an IT Company that builds website, software or does digital? Why do they outsource?

Is it……….Cost Management: I don’t mean having someone work for $5 an hour. The benefit lies in having a partner who can take on a deliver their projects behind the scenes all year round, without them having to commit to spending large amounts on their own local / in-house team. Over a 12 month period, the savings and increased flexibility of having an offshore, but closely integrated partner can be significant, as your expenses are directly tied to your cashflow. You only pay out, when you are making money and you have the flexibility to decide what to do in house and what to send offshore.

Is it……….Removing the headache of HR: Ever tried to manage 40 staff? If you have you’ll know the work involved and the support staff required just to keep the machine turning. When outsourcing this problem is removed as you deal with only your appointed team leaders and the rest ‘just happens’.

Is it……….Freeing them up to be creative: but having a partner who can take care of the hard-core coding?

Is it……….Expanding their skill set: Often, companies have the right contacts and project management skills to define, manage and win large projects, but not the in house capacity to code, test and deliver them. A offshore partner can provide this help and capacity.

What does outsourcing mean to you?

Decision is an important aspect of business which shapes the future growth pattern of a company. Most people will make almost same decision when presented with a complete data as it reduces the risk probability and leads to better profits.

Business Objects is a pioneer model that has been used by the market to for making these improvements. It encompasses information systems sitting over databases for vendors, suppliers, staff, owners and the customers.

Business Intelligence (BI) are accessible to information systems that supports business and any business user (customer, suppliers, staff, etc.) can ask there custom queries and get an immediate result set which they are looking for. This whole process doesn’t require any involvement of IT staff. BI shields business people from complexity of data and provide them effective results based on the data for decision making in such a competitive world.

BI solutions have turned the dream of empowering knowledge workers into reality in a short span of time. The traveling workforces of executives, sales, and customer service representatives, as well as line workers of all kinds, can now always have business intelligence and communications at their fingertips.

Now BI is moving a leap ahead as companies have started tying up BI solutions with mobile devices such as iphone, PDA, etc in addition to currently available facility of hooking them up with emails, software for work sharing etc.

BI has emerge as a business model that build on human intelligence to allow people for self service in wide range of markets in the same way they do now in the supermarket.

Most of the time we all see promotional emails hitting our inbox, spam or junk folder, which sometimes becomes frustrating to unsubscribe or delete ‘m all. I usually try not to be so harsh with these emails, with the intention of obtaining some good idea/opportunity, I try to see some of them, not always, but sometimesJ.

I have noticed that many a times the alignments, background and positions used in the email are inappropriate. So, there is a scope for all of us to know the best practices to follow while designing the email templates. We provide solutions for email campaigns and it is on our top priority to ensure that all the emails we design, gets open and looks exactly the same way we have designed it for the end-user to see in any mailing software e.g. Outlook, Gmail, Lotus, AOL, Yahoo, MSN etc. I thought of sharing with you some of the points that we consider while designing the email templates to ensure that design remains intact in whatever mail software you use.

Let’s have a quick look at some of the points:

The document type for your email template should be HTML 4.01 or onwards and not XHTML as following its strict guidelines is not feasible in this context.

In case your email template has international audience and can support multiple languages then use UTF-8 in Meta tags.

Always use
<table>and have all the contents inside it and do not forget to use absolute width (650 px if you are not using any campaign monitor to design the template and 600 px if you are using some kind of campaign monitor, as most of the campaign monitors renders emails correctly in this specified size).

It is important to know that mail software downloads the emails locally and then shows it to the user (i.e. you) thus, make sure we use absolute references for images and links (e.g. http://www.yourwebsite/folder/imagename) instead of using (./folder/imagename).

Do not try to use external CSS/style when you are designing email templates, always use inline CSS/style e.g. .

Another point which is very important, do not use background images to beautify your email templates, as not all the mailing software shows background images, instead use background-color.

Not all the mail software allow the flash to run so, try to avoid it.

Keep in mind the above steps while designing your email template and I am sure you will see improvement and happy clients. Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences here.

Cheers,

et varius magna sapien dapibus augue. Vestibulum ipsum purus, convallis vitae, commodo vitae,

LAM (Legacy Application Migration) is clearly one of the most complex IT challenges facing the IT industry today. Although there are a number of forces driving companies to migrate their Legacy Applications to .Net the overriding impetus for LAM is the need to easily address changing business demands, leverage information rich databases and future proof critical business systems in order to maintain a competitive edge in the market.

In today’s competitive business scenario, CIOs understand that LAM can significantly reduce costs through the implementation of more efficient, standardized IT systems that lower maintenance and human resource expenses.

Modernized systems also guarantee the following benefits:

Shorter time-to-market.

Easier application & information integration.

Consolidation of subsystems.

The ability to expand functionality while fully preserving corporate business knowledge.

The ROI of updated systems can be measured not only directly within the IT budget but also throughout the organization, due to increased productivity and more efficient decision making processes.

However, organisations also understand that migrating mission-critical legacy systems has the potential to become one of the IT department’s most daunting and complex tasks, as most in-house IT teams lack modernization experience. The wide range of modernization paths and tools, each with its own positive and negative business consequences, has led more and more IT executives to recognise the need for an integrated solution approach to LAM.

The growing importance of Legacy Application Migration has perpetuated a large number of terms that often confuse rather than simplify the various issues involved.

A popular misconception is that “Legacy Systems” are old and cumbersome, run on antiquated hardware and software, and continue to be used only because the costs and risks involved in replacing or redesigning them are so high. While this may be true in some cases, this definition is too narrow and is open to misinterpretation. For example, there are one, two and three year old applications, which are classed as ‘legacy’ simply because they have a successor under development.

Since Legacy Systems include all production systems and their associated data, Legacy System Migration is, simply put, the process of ensuring that Legacy Systems fully meet the enterprise’s present requirements and current technology needs.

What Drives Legacy Application Migration (LAM)?

The consideration currently given to LAM is a direct reflection of today’s business climate. Businesses require cutting-edge IT systems in order to stay ahead in a marketplace characterized by rapid change, globalization, and economies of scale, increasing competition, and diminishing margins.

While LAM can be viewed, as discussed above, as a basic and ongoing need of every IT system, more often than not, the decision to launch a modernization initiative surfaces at a critical juncture for the organisation.

The need for migration of applications or databases in enterprises arises from changes in business demands or technology challenges either to improve operational efficiency or to manage risk. Many enterprises face the challenge of ensuring that investments in legacy systems do not get locked in proprietary and outdated technologies while migrating to newer systems. The need is to preserve established business rules and practices in the old system at the same time managing valuable human resources locked in maintaining legacy systems.

The need for LAM is largely driven by;

Maintenance problems: Complex aging architecture and the difficulty of deploying such systems

A lack of skilled technicians to maintain the systems

Scalability problems

Business logic mix-up

An inability to access, manipulate and analyse business information and data

Integration problems with other enterprise systems

Difficulty in adapting the system for new user requirements

With ever improvising technology LAM definitely is the need for every business house.
